Wrong Fuel Recovery – Myths Crete Skepticism & Fear

Motorists or drivers are not as worried over breakdown problems as they are over wrong-fuelling issues. Despite repeated insistences that mis-fuelling seldom leads to severe consequences demanding heavy repairing costs and/or beyond fixing-up, a larger number of motorists still believe that wrong-fuelling means end of their cars’ life or at least, they have to break their banks in order to get the cars back.

However, that becomes a reality only when the damage is severe and engine is rendered non-working. Let us burst some myths and guide the motorists to the path of enlightenment so that they can make an informed choice.

All wrong-fuelling problems are dangerous

If petrol gets into diesel cars, it poses a real threat to engine. However, damages can be prevented if actions are taken earlier. If unleaded petrol is allowed to remain in a diesel tank for a long time, it could see diesel lubricants coming off the engine as well as other components along the fuel supply channel.

Those tiny parts add to fuel contamination and that only adds to the problems. The matter can turn worse if the motorists drive their cars without realizing or in full knowledge that the cars have contaminated fuel in the tanks as it only circulate the fuel mixture throughout the engine.

Repairing is expensive

It depends on severity of damages. If complications are involved and several parts are damaged, it will take more time to fix up the problems. However, as most of the wrong-fuelling problems are mild in nature, only wrong fuel recovery can solve the problems and that means, the motorists will not have to pay a fortune for repairing.

Call in a specialist

All works are not for DIY enthusiasts. It needs technical and theoretical expertise to deal with petrol and diesel as these are dangerous chemicals. So, there is no alternative to hiring an expert!

Wrong Fuel Recovery- Not a difficult work

Wrong fuel usage is always a mistake and such cases shouldn’t be taken lightly. It should be thoroughly checked to control the damages. There is no need to panic in such cases as these problems are easily curable.

It is only a very rare case where the professional needed to go for a full flush-out to bring back the car into its normal self. The reasons of these mistakes are none other than the negligence and the ignorance of the motorists. In the majority of cases wrong fueling doesn’t cause much problem to the engine. However, using unleaded petrol in a diesel engine can be very harmful. One thing should always be kept in mind that is, wrong fuel, whether it is petrol or diesel cannot cause any harm to your car or a massive problem if the fuel is taken out of the car tank fully.

Petrol in Diesel Car problems can be solved by anyone if taken proper care of it. But it not a job for the DIY enthusiasts. For such problems it is advised to save the number of a wrong fuel specialist. Some agencies ask to take the car to them and some provides help on the spot. But it is obvious to go with the latter as it is not possible to tow such heavy machinery even if it’s a small distance.

However only draining the wrong fuel is not enough as the car needs to be thoroughly checked to figure out if wrong fueling has caused any massive trouble to the car. To solve that, right fuel is pushed inside the tank and then flushed out to figure out any internal damage. In case of any problem the experts fixes them up. Wrong fuel problems can be prevented if taken to a specialist at the right time.

Why Unleaded into Diesel Car is Damaging

Wrong fuel mistake can be broadly categorized under two heads – Unleaded in Diesel Car and Diesel in Petrol Car. Most of the motorists, who are aware of the causes and consequences of loading wrong fuel into car tank, shiver at the realization that they have installed unleaded petrol into diesel cars. Is there anything to worry about or are they making a mountain of mole hills? Let us examine the fact.

Every fuel recovery agency will tell you that they receive significantly lower number of ‘diesel in petrol’ car incidents in respect of the opposite cases. Why? It can be contributed to mismatch between the width of nozzle in diesel pump at the fuel court and opening of a petrol car tank. On the contrary, the diameter of an unleaded petrol pump finely matches with an opening of a diesel car tank and that creates the problem.

Now the question is why unleaded petrol is considered a heavy problem for a diesel car. There is some reality to it. Petrol, while going through the fuel pipe, tends to scratch off diesel coating. After reaching engine, it does the same thing. As a result, components come in direct contact with each other in absence of diesel lubrication and that leads to their decaying.

The tiny parts of the lubrications, which are stripped off by unleaded petrol, further get mixed with wrong fuel and add to volume of fuel mixture.

Can a little amount of mixture create havoc problem?

If it is diesel in petrol and there is very little amount of wrong fuel in car tank, chance is almost nil that your car will sustain damages. However, I will always recommend fuel wrong fuel recovery because if you are not in luck, even a small amount of mixture could cause damages to your car. And if it is unleaded into your diesel car, I will mince no words in saying that early recovery is a must, no matter how much you have loaded.

Wrong Fuel Recovery – separate Myth & Reality

Contrary to the idea of many people, recovering wrong fuel is not always a major issue but there are other vital factors. The system that is used to recover the contaminated fuel from a car’s fuel tank, not only consists ladling out the fuel. In order for it to be truly effective , it also includes total flush-out of the wrong fuel.

Experts have noted that even after the wrong type of fuel is recovered from the fuel tank, some residue of it remains in the car engine or other parts that are placed near the fuel line. For this reason, a complete recovery is very much important. Unfortunately, many wrong fuel recovery agencies do not offer complete fuel recovery and cleaning. Many motorists, who do not have much idea about fuel recovery and full cleaning, stay happy only if they are able to use their cars quickly. But the problem is not rooted out and can cause further trouble.

A large majority of wrong-fuelling cases require only flush-out / total drainage ; whereas the rest of the cases require extensive checking to find faults and then repairing. In some cases where the damage is severe, you may have to replace some parts of the car . In very rare cases, damages are so extensive that you are compelled to replace your engine.

Several myths regarding mis-fuelling have been established. A example is the belief that wrong fuelling only means putting petrol in diesel tank and not the other way around. The truth is that this type of mistake is the most prevalent the opposite also happens sometimes. Some motorists also believe that if you drive with wrong fuel mixture, the engine will be damaged beyond repair. But while some damage is done from wrong fuelling, they can be repaired.

Wrong Fuel Recovery – Now It’s My Turn to Tell You a Story

When it comes to prides of possessions, your car will surely be one of them. It serves you in multiple occasions, taking you to your workplaces and events where you can socialize with your relatives, friends and other acquaintances. A vehicle is a wonderful asset for you and very precious as well. Just imagine what if it becomes an unusable wreck due to presence of contaminated fuel in car tank?

I have my own story to share and you can take a lesson from it. I was returning home after visiting my in-laws in Liverpool, with my wife and two children with me. It was close to 10 at night. After driving two miles, I stopped at a fuel court for tank refilling. I was driving a 10-year old Citroen ZX Diesel Estate powered by diesel. After that, we set off happily. With further a couple of miles down the road, I found the car jerking on the plain surface. We went further another two miles and this time, I told my wife, “I’m not going to take it anymore. Let us find out what has gone wrong with our beloved”.

I noticed smoke coming out of the exhaust apart from bumpy ride. I took the car to a nearby service station. They lifted the bonnet and checked the car to diagnose the problem. And I came in shock to know that my tank was almost full of unleaded PETROL and not DIESEAL. I failed to understand how I could have been so callous. My heart almost stopped beating. I needed early siphoning and checking, which meant I would now have to pay a hefty sum for wrong fuel recovery. Thankfully, the service center got it drained quickly and most efficiently. They really put in great effort to breathe a fresh lease in my car’s life.

And my wallet felt healthy and happy as before!

Wrong Fuel Recovery – Advice from Breakdown Service Specialists (Part III)

After you realize that you have pumped wrong fuel into car tank, immediately call a wrong fuel drainer. Meanwhile you need to take some responsibility to ensure that the car suffers no damage. You must not start the engine. In fact, it is also recommended not to lock or unlock the vehicle as some diesel-powered cars feature a low-pressure electric fuel pipe. The problem with these pipes is they are primed as soon as ignition is switched on or in the event of any electrical activity such as locking or unlocking of door.

If you are currently at the fuel station, request the staff there to help you push your car out of the way of other drivers to a safe place. If you have already driven your car and it has suddenly stopped on the road, you need to be quick in pushing it to a safe zone. It will better for you to turn on hazard warning lights. If you have an emergency reflective triangle, put it up.

Call a specialist

Calling in an expert is a must to get advice on such kind of problem and also to get out of the same. You will never be short on options as there are many companies offering service in this niche. You need trained contaminated fuel recovery experts who have specialization and proper licenses in this regard.

Complete fuel drainage & system flush

Contrary to some frightening incidents that were probably brought to your notice by one of your friends to make you aware of wrong fuelling hazards, simple fuel drainage is often the only work required to solve the problem. If you don’t own a sports car and luxurious car, fuel drainage is only what you need to wait for. In more than 95% of wrong-fuelling cases involving the ordinary vehicles, engineers just assess the situation and then drain out contaminated fuel.

Wrong Fuel Recovery – Advice from Breakdown Service Specialists (Part II)

Starting from where we ended last week, we will now take a look at the differences between petrol and diesel engine fuel systems:

When diesel-driven vehicle first arrived in the market, it was not difficult to tell how they were different from petrol-powered vehicles due to heavy noise generated while the cars were running. Diesel cars used to produce a heavy and distinct rating sound while being revved or idling. However, those differences have been eliminated in the new-age diesel cars which produce no sound any longer. Modern-day diesel engines have undergone several changes and installation of sound-proof system has made it extremely difficult to understand if the car is running on diesel or petrol.

The fuel system pump in a petrol engine works differently from that in a diesel engine. In a diesel engine, it performs within tighter tolerance and its internal pressure is much higher if compared with that in the petrol-powered vehicle while running. The latest diesel cars run at from 350 to 1600 bar. Diesel functions as lubricant for the system components lining the fuel supply channel, preventing them from frictions that may happen if there is a contact between the metal components during their operation.

Diesel in Petrol – What Happens to Fuel System

Several problems may take place if unleaded is accidentally loaded into a diesel tank. Unleaded petrol does not feature lubricating qualities. It implies that if someone tries to run a diesel fuel pipe carrying unleaded petrol in it, there will be metal-to-metal contact between the components in the pump body and as a result, those metals will start grinding against each other and small pieces of metals will contaminate the fuel further. These metal fragments will then start working through the vehicle’s fuel system, resulting into further damages to other parts as well as blockages.

The next big damaging character of unleaded petrol is it functions as a solvent and so can produce detrimental effects on the fuel system seals which, more than often, require replacement.

We will shed more light on it in the next week and until then; you have to keep waiting…..

Dissecting reasons for Wrong Fuel Recovery

It happens not only in the UK but also in every corner of the globe where people run fuel-driven cars. I am talking about wrong fuel mistake. Industry analysts have noted that demand for fuel flush-out service gets to a new peak at the time of new car registration. They have also revealed that March and September are the busiest months for the wrong fuel recovery service providers. The experts are of the view that reason behind such situation is due to accelerated rise in demand for diesel-driven cars.

More and more of the car owners are now exchanging their petrol cars for the diesel powered vehicles. That leads to a situation where they forget about owning a new car that runs on diesel, not petrol. Those forgetful owners fill up their diesel car tank with petrol because they have been used to doing it for several years. It is not common to find out a case where diesel is placed into petrol car tank because the unleaded tank aperture is smaller than diesel fuel nozzle in size, therefore making it difficult for wrong refuelling.

If the statistics is considered from the perspective of what is happening on regular basis, demand is usually higher in the mornings as well as evenings when the motorist are on their way to work or home. People are more focused on to-be-done works in the morning while in the evening, the motorists feel tired. Both the causes result into absentmindedness and that is, in turn, responsible for wrong fuel mistake.

Majority of the motorists, who are victims of wrong fuel mistake, consider themselves most unfortunate and foolish. They feel a sense of being dead and start panicking. Needless to say, worrying is not a solution and it pushes them more into panic mode. Calling in a specialist wrong fuel drainer is the only way to get rid of the problem and back on the road.

How to Tackle the menace

Mis-fuelling (putting wrong type of fuel in the car) is nowadays a very common cause for which people call car emergency services. The reason why people panic when they mistakenly commit wrong fuelling is because it can cause serious damage to your car if not handled properly. At almost every fuel station multiple types of fuels are sold and so there is always the chance that   motorists will choose the wrong type. Most probably, you were distracted and inattentive and also if you have recently switched to diesel car from a petrol car, you may have simply forgotten it. It has been seen that in almost every case, petrol is mistakenly put into diesel tanks as the nozzle of the petrol pipe can fit into a diesel tank but a diesel nozzle will not fit into a petrol tank.

But whatever may be the reason; the incident is no doubt a bit embarrassing and can be really annoying and troublesome. But the biggest worry of all is that wrong fuelling can permanently damage the engine of your car. Naturally it will cause you a good deal of money. All that running and yelling will do you no good other than make the situation even worse. The best thing you can do is call a wrong fuel recovery expert as soon as you can. Otherwise you will have to bear the most burnt and it can be real heavy on your pocket.

Filling petrol in a diesel car is becoming a common mistake. Just in the United Kingdom, more than 150,000 motorists commit this mistake every year. The modern day diesel engine cars are built in such a way that they cannot tolerate petrol too much and will be heavily damaged. Even famous celebrities and important personalities are not safe from wrong-fuelling problems. On one occasion President of America Barack Obama’s car also suffered wrong-fuelling and needed servicing. However, immediate wrong fuel recovery will stop the situation from going out of hand.
