Wrong Fuel Recovery – Keep Your Head Cool

Wrong-fuelling is not what only a few commit and suffer. Motorists in increasing number are accidentally topping their tank with wrong fuel. And if you mis-fuel your diesel car with petrol, it could set you back by a fortune.

If engine is damaged, repairing cost could vary from £300 to £3,000 but the actual cost depends on severity of damage and the kind of diesel engine housed in the vehicle. Wrong-fuelling could be a big problem for car-hire companies. They rent a fleet of cars and mis-fuelling could cost them more than thousands. Maintenance cost for these vehicles could be as high as £50m. This reasons why the car-hire companies are more in favour of taking action to prevent the drivers from loading wrong fuel in their car tank. ‘Prevention is better than cure’ is what they are a firm believer of.

The high-risk vehicles feature modern rail diesel engines of most sophisticated type. These engines are not known for their high tolerance against wrong fuel and if petrol is placed in it, you have no way but to replace the line filters, pressure fuel pump, injectors and tank. I hope now you understand why wrong-fuelling is often believed to be heavily expensive.

What you should do after wrong-fuelling:

  • You must not start engine.
  • You must not make attempts to remove contaminated fuel on your own.
  • You must call in a wrong fuel drainage specialist.
  • You must deal with an agency that ensures complete fuel recovery and comprehensive service.

Starting the engine while wrong fuel is still in the tank could lead to massive damage and heavy expenses for repairing. Even you may require replacement and that will only add to the expenses for problem fix-up. There are some insurance companies that cover repairing costs but most of them don’t agree to pay in the event of mis-fuelling.
